I chose to paint this image as i had just visited Antony Gormley's "Another Place " myself, so i had a connection with it already and Alex's photographs really captured the emotions i felt whilst i was there. For this canvas i combined two photographs. I loved the colours in the sky and reflections in the water of the top image but i just loved the composition of the second photograph. I think the two have really worked well to make a whole complete painting capturing the mood of "Another Place" Another Place is a piece of modern sculpture by Antony Gormley on Crosby Beach, Liverpool, UK. It consists of 100 cast iron sculptures of the artist's own body, facing towards the sea, spread out on a 2 mile stretch of beach. In common with most of Gormley's work, the figures are cast replicas of his own body. As the tides ebb and flow, the figures are revealed and submerged by the sea, in order to harness and explore man's relationship with nature. |
